Ride A Pet Pet Leveling Guide: XP, Food, and How Age Works

How pet Age and XP work in Ride A Pet, the five food items with prices and XP, how to feed pets, and an efficient feeding strategy. Values can change with updates.

Pets in Ride A Pet start at Age 1 and gain XP passively every second while placed in your base. You can level them much faster by feeding food bought from the Food Shop — higher Age means better earnings-per-second and faster movement speed, so feeding your best pet is one of the most reliable ways to grow your income.

How pet leveling (Age) works

Every hatched pet begins at Age 1. Each pet shows an Age number on the right side of its card, which acts as its level once XP is filled. Pets gain XP naturally over time while active, and feeding accelerates this. Note that the exact XP required per Age level and a confirmed max Age cap have not been pinned down — only anecdotal mentions of "max age" pets exist — so treat progression rates as approximate.

Grass's per-unit XP is currently inconsistent across reporting: some listings give +500 per Grass, while other walkthroughs describe +7,500 per unit (or 9 Grass as +4,500 XP, implying 500 each). Check the XP shown in-game before buying in bulk.

Where to buy food

Food is purchased from the Food Shop at the center of the map, alongside the Track station. The shop has limited stock and refreshes roughly every 2 minutes 45 seconds (some players describe the timer as closer to 3 minutes, so treat it as approximate). Grass is always in stock; Dragonfruit is rarely available due to its Ethereal rarity. You can buy any number of items and store them in your inventory. Personal purchases cost Cash, while gifting requires Robux.

How to feed a pet

  1. Equip the food item from your inventory.
  2. Interact with the pet in your base you wish to give EXP to, or ride (mount) the critter first and then interact with it.
  3. Hold the feed input to grant the XP instantly.

Pets in your hotbar cannot be fed — they must be placed in your base first.

What leveling changes: income and speed

Higher-Age pets have better overall stats: greater earnings-per-second while placed on your plot and higher movement speed for traversing the map. Feeding a pet grants it XP instantly, and gameplay captures show large speed gains from feeding — for example, a fed horse climbing from roughly 7,000 to 9,000 speed and beyond. Higher-level pets generate more cash, so feeding your best pet generally pays for itself.

Efficient leveling: feed your best pet, not every pet

  • Concentrate food on your single highest-income pet (or your main mount) rather than spreading XP across weak pets — one high-level earner beats several low-level ones.
  • Don't waste food on temporary pets you are about to replace; save it for pets you plan to keep.
  • Grass at 10 Cash is the cheapest early option; food remains worth buying because a higher-level pet generates more cash per second.
  • Cash for food comes from pets placed on your plot, which generate money each second even while you are offline.

XP values, food prices, and shop stock can change with updates, so recheck in-game after patches.
